On Monday, in a crucial rebranding event, Elon Musk changed the logo of Twitter from the bluebird to a black “X”. This Elon Musk Twitter logo change comes after Musk’s poll on Sunday asking his Twitter followers whether they would welcome the color change of site from blue to black.
The announced change to the new Twitter logo happened as an effort to symbolize the revolutionary changes Elon Musk wants to implement in the near future.
The name of the business was also changed to X Corp, which is aimed to create an Everything App similar to the Chinese WeChat which has no rivals in the US market.
Evolution of the Twitter logo
The blue bird logo was adopted by Twitter when it was initially launched in 2006. The logo represented a social media platform that gave short and quick status updates.
Initially, the logo of Twitter was green in color with a water droplet effect on it. It was not so attractive and fortunately, it was not released to the public. Later, came Twitter’s first official logo. It was shown to the public, with the final name “Twitter” in light blue. From 2006 to 2010, this logo was in use.
Then from 2010 to 2012, an image of a bird was added to the Twitter logo. Within a couple of years, the bird has gained so much recognition that it could alone represent Twitter. So, by the next update I lost the words in it and only the bluebird remained.
This logo continued recently until it was changed to the new twitter logo “X”. The new logo of Twitter has a greater significance which is essentially the outcome of change in the ownership of the platform.
Musk’s Acquisition of Twitter
Musk bought the microblogging site in 2022 at a whopping price of $44bn and since then he has introduced a series of changes. Whether the users appreciated the changes or not, it was inevitably made as Mr. Musk wanted to have those. This goes the same with the Twitter logo change.
Musk relaunched the Twitter Blue subscription. With a handsome price, the Twitter Blue subscription allows subscribers to turn on reader mode, edit tweets and they are also allowed to create bookmark folders. To increase the number of subscribers, the old verification method was called off.
Musk introduced blue Checkmarks, gray check marks, gold checkmarks and organization badges to Twitter. Musk has also introduced separate For you and Following tabs.
The number of layoffs that Twitter had witnessed in recent years is also because of Elon Musk’s takeover of the brand. These changes which mostly disturbed the old and new users are part of Musk’s plan to bring innovation to the platform.
The CEO of Tesla has changed from the old logo to a new Elon Musk Twitter logo, stamping his imprint on Twitter. With the new logo of Twitter, the new era of social media sites is announced. Twitter is one of those social media sites that keeps updating itself. The Twitter logo change can also be viewed in the same light.
Musk's obsession with “X”
Musk’s obsession with the “X” is not a secret. It is evident from the very first venture he launched in 1999. It was an online bank named X.com, which later merged with Confinity to become PayPal. Model X is Tesla's SUV model, a luxury crossover SUV with falcon doors.
Another famous X on the list is SpaceX. Space X is an American aerospace company that researches, designs, manufactures and launches aircrafts, missiles, rocket propulsion systems, etc. Falcon 1 is the first liquid-propellant system launched by SpaceX. Musk has some personal love for the letter, which he nicknamed his elder son “X”.
Impact on Twitter’s Brand Identity
The change in logo is just the beginning of a series of changes anticipated. Musk bought the microblogging site in 2006 with the aim to create an everything app. Recently the current CEO of Twitter, Linda Yaccarino said that they aim to provide a future with unlimited interactivity in a way that is not yet imagined.
The app will focus on audio, video, messaging, digital transactions, banking and commercial activities. Musk envisions making an app where users can live, as it will be extremely useful to users. However, Musk’s new gesture of renaming has wiped out the heritage of 15 years and the emotion associated with it, which may not be so beneficial for the future health of the app.
